Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using Jetmap to track your aviation journey.

General Questions

What is Jetmap?

Jetmap is a personal aviation logbook that helps you track every flight you've ever taken. Whether you're a frequent business traveller accumulating status credits, an aviation enthusiast documenting aircraft types, or a casual traveller wanting to remember your journeys, Jetmap provides a beautiful, organized way to log and visualize your flying history. The platform calculates statistics like total distance flown, time in the air, airports visited, airlines used, and much more, while presenting your routes on interactive world maps.

Is Jetmap free to use?

Yes! Jetmap offers a free plan that includes up to 100 logged flights, an interactive flight map, core statistics and analytics, public profile sharing, single frequent flyer membership tracking, paste itinerary feature, and access to community features. For users who need more, Jetmap Premium removes the flight limit and adds advanced features like unlimited flight logging, PDF logbook export, enhanced frequent flyer analytics, scenario planning, multiple FF memberships, and more.

Who is Jetmap for?

Jetmap is designed for anyone who loves to fly. Frequent business travellers use it to track status credits and tier progress across multiple airline programs. Aviation enthusiasts and planespotters use it to document every aircraft registration and type they've flown. Leisure travellers use it as a travel diary in the sky. If you've ever wondered how many flights you've taken, how far you've flown, or which airports you visit most often, Jetmap is for you.

How is Jetmap different from other flight tracking apps?

Unlike real-time flight tracking apps that focus on live flight status, Jetmap is specifically built as a historical logbook for your personal flying history. We're not tracking flights in real-time or monitoring aircraft positions. Instead, we help you build a permanent record of your aviation life with features like detailed frequent flyer status tracking, achievement milestones, PDF logbook generation, and scenario planning for reaching your next elite tier.

Do I need to be a pilot to use Jetmap?

Not at all! While pilots can certainly use Jetmap, the platform is designed primarily for passengers who want to track their commercial flight history. You don't need any aviation expertise or pilot licenses. If you've ever been on a plane as a passenger and want to remember that journey, Jetmap is for you.

Is Jetmap affiliated with any airline or frequent flyer program?

No, Jetmap is completely independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any airline or frequent flyer program. We aggregate publicly available program rules to help you track your status, but all calculations are estimates. You should always verify your official status credits and tier progress directly with your airline's frequent flyer program portal.

Getting Started

How do I create an account?

Creating a Jetmap account is simple. Click the "Get Started" or "Sign Up" button on the homepage, enter your email address and choose a password, and you're ready to start logging flights. You can optionally add profile information like your display name and profile picture later through your account settings.

Do I need to log every flight I've ever taken?

No, you can start logging flights at any point. Many users begin by logging their most recent flights and gradually add historical data when they have time. Others start fresh and only track flights going forward. There's no requirement to have a complete historical record, though having more data makes your statistics and visualizations more interesting.

How do I add my first flight?

After creating your account, click the "Add Flight" button (usually a plus icon in the navigation). Enter the basic details: departure airport, arrival airport, date, and airline. Jetmap will automatically calculate the distance and flight time. You can optionally add more details like flight number, aircraft registration, seat number, cabin class, and personal notes.

Can I import flights from other apps or sources?

Yes! Jetmap supports importing flight data via CSV files. If you have flight data in a spreadsheet or from another tracking app, you can format it as a CSV and import it into Jetmap. Premium users also have access to Flighty CSV import with advanced merge and update modes. We provide a CSV template to help you format your data correctly.

What if I don't remember all the details of past flights?

That's completely normal! At minimum, you need the departure and arrival airports and the date. Jetmap can calculate distance and approximate flight time automatically. Details like flight number, aircraft type, and seat number are all optional. Many users start with basic information and add details later when they find old boarding passes or email confirmations.

Flight Logging

What information can I track for each flight?

For each flight, you can log: departure and arrival airports (required), flight date (required), airline (required), flight number, aircraft registration (tail number), aircraft type, seat number and preference, cabin class (economy, premium economy, business, first), departure and arrival times, actual flight duration, personal notes and memories, and frequent flyer number used.

How does Jetmap calculate flight distance?

Jetmap calculates flight distance using the great circle distance between departure and arrival airports. This is the shortest distance between two points on a sphere (the Earth) and represents the path aircraft generally follow. The calculation uses precise airport coordinates from our global airport database, which covers thousands of airports worldwide.

Can I edit or delete flights after adding them?

Absolutely. You can edit any flight at any time by clicking on it in your flight list or map. You can also delete flights if you logged something incorrectly. Changes are reflected immediately in your statistics and visualizations.

What's the difference between "add," "merge," and "update" import modes?

"Add mode" (available to all users) simply adds new flights to your logbook without checking for duplicates. "Merge mode" (Premium only) compares imported flights with your existing flights and only adds new ones, skipping duplicates. "Update mode" (Premium only) matches imported flights with existing ones based on date and route, updating any changed details.

Maps and Visualization

What map projections are available?

Jetmap offers multiple map projections: Mercator (the traditional web map view), Globe (3D spherical view), Outdoors (topographical details), Satellite (aerial imagery), and Streets (detailed road maps). You can switch between projections at any time and save your preferred view as the default.

Why do my flight paths curve on the map?

Flight paths curve because Jetmap displays them as great circle routes, which represent the shortest distance between two points on Earth's surface. These routes appear curved on flat map projections like Mercator because you're projecting a three-dimensional sphere onto a two-dimensional surface.

Can I filter which flights appear on my map?

Yes! You can filter your map view by date range, airline, airport, aircraft type, and cabin class. This is useful for seeing patterns like all your business class flights, flights on a specific airline, or flights to a particular region.

How do I share my map with others?

If you make your profile public in your account settings, anyone with your profile link can view your flight map, statistics, and flight list. Premium users can also share individual flights via direct links, even with people who don't have Jetmap accounts.

Statistics and Analytics

What statistics does Jetmap calculate?

Jetmap calculates dozens of statistics including: total flights logged, total distance flown, total time in the air, unique airlines and airports, most visited airports, most used airlines, longest and shortest flights, busiest months and years, cabin class distribution, achievement milestones, and much more.

What are achievement milestones?

Achievement milestones are badges you earn for reaching various flying milestones. Categories include distance achievements (100,000 km, 500,000 km, 1 million km), flight count achievements (50, 100, 500 flights), time in air achievements (100, 500, 1,000 hours), exploration achievements (visiting all continents, flying to 50 countries), and special achievements.

Can I export my statistics?

Premium users can export their full flight history as a CSV file or generate a beautifully formatted PDF logbook that includes flight lists, statistics, and maps.

Frequent Flyer Tracking

Which frequent flyer programs does Jetmap support?

Jetmap supports tracking for major frequent flyer programs worldwide, including Qantas Frequent Flyer, Virgin Australia Velocity, Air New Zealand Airpoints, Emirates Skywards, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, United MileagePlus, American AAdvantage, Delta SkyMiles, British Airways Executive Club, and many others.

How does frequent flyer status tracking work?

When you add frequent flyer membership details to your profile, Jetmap uses publicly available program rules to estimate status credits earned for each flight based on distance flown, cabin class, and fare bucket (when available). The system tracks your progress toward each elite tier. These are estimates only — verify official credits with your airline.

What is the scenario planner?

The scenario planner (Premium feature) lets you model future flights to see how they would affect your frequent flyer status. You can add hypothetical flights to see which routes and cabin classes will help you reach your next tier most efficiently.

Why don't my Jetmap frequent flyer calculations match my airline account?

Frequent flyer calculations can differ because Jetmap uses publicly available program rules and cannot account for promotional bonuses, member-specific offers, or fare-specific earning rates. Always use your airline's official portal as the source of truth for your actual status credits and tier progress.

Can I track multiple frequent flyer programs?

Free plan users can track one frequent flyer membership. Premium users can track multiple memberships across different airline programs simultaneously.

Premium Features

What's included in Jetmap Premium?

How much does Jetmap Premium cost?

What happens to my data if I cancel Premium?

All subscription fees are non-refundable except as required by law. If you cancel, you'll retain access to Premium features until the end of your current billing period. If you believe you were charged in error, please contact us within 30 days.

Is my flight data private?

By default, your flight data is completely private and only visible to you. You control whether your profile is public or private through your account settings. If you make your profile public, other users can see your flight map, statistics, and flight list, but they cannot edit your data.

How does Jetmap protect my data?

We take data security seriously. Your password is encrypted using industry-standard hashing algorithms. Data transmission is encrypted using SSL/TLS protocols. Our database is hosted on secure servers with regular backups. We never sell your personal information to third parties.

Can I delete my account?
